Manchester United’s game against Leicester saw a revitalised attack that had been invisible for weeks under Ten Hag, scoring 2 goals under their season tally in one game. Under a coach who was already there? It feels as if some deep lying problems are present in the Manchester United locker room that have and are causing problems with management of the team.

Maybe they’re excited about the prospect of new management at the end of a bad term, it isn’t exactly new for teams to pick up a good streak of form when new management takes over. However, Van Nistelrooy isn’t new. He has been managing them for months under Ten Hag and is a highly similar tactician. So, how does an attack that has struggled to score for the entire season suddenly come alight within a few days of their manager moving on?

Most eyes have been turned to Amorim to replace Ten Hag and an eerie feel lies in the locker room of a squad that has some players who have served under 5 managers at Manchester United; in not that many more years. How has a man who has been in that locker room for the same amount of time suddenly lit this team alight unless it is something to do with the players? One man in particular who has served under many managers at the club is Bruno Fernandes. He is the captain of the team and their is no doubt his voice has standing. Another man, in Casemiro, who has been in a tough patch of form was able to suddenly resolve his problems having an incredible game against Leicester. It just feels like something is going on in the locker room as players who haven’t performed for weeks are suddenly capable of more in a majorly similar tactical role; under a coach who isn’t new.

It leaves the question of whose fault it is Ten Hag has walked away. Poor decisions from ownership? Players not wanting to play for the manager? It is concerning for anyone coming in looking to takeover and it will be interesting to see Amorim’s reaction and if he will step into the role at a club where players are suddenly capable of things they weren’t only days ago. It does feel that it is almost an impossible role, how can you train a locker room that will do things for Van Nistelrooy that they wouldn’t do for his boss two days ago.
