Kvaratskhelia to Paris Saint-Germain: European success at last?

PSG are currently unbeaten in Ligue 1 and sit seven points clear at the top of the table. It isn’t a suprise to see them being successful in the French top division as they often dominate and have won 8 of the last 10 Ligue 1 titles in dominating fashion. They are easily the most successful team in French history and have proved it through their big signings like Neymar, Messi or Ronaldinho and have done it again by signing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. He is one of the best talents in football and was highly successful with Georgia at the most recent European Championship, dragging them to a level that they would never have expected into the Round of 16 where they were beaten by a strong Spain team that we know went on to win the tournament. Khvicha only scored once but his overall creative play was astounding and Paris Saint-Germain will be hoping this is what he can do for them in a similar European competition.

However, PSG have often struggled to perform in Europe even when they have had big names such as Messi, Neymar and Mbappe. Even with these players they weren’t capable of winning the Champions League and this season see themselves on the brink of falling short of the 24 that wpuld take them into the knockout stages. But, a mid-season signing in Kvaratskhelia could see them make a push to better performances. He adds support for them in an attack that has already scored just short of 50 goals and with his addition could see them become one of the most dominant forces in Europe, or at least it seems that way. It isn’t the first time PSG have made a big signing in the hope of improved play and they have often not paid off. If Khvicha can provide for them like he did in Naples then there doesn’t seem to be a reason they don’t perform but the same thing has been argued for many a player in the French capital.

Luis Enrique’s team will be looking to make a push for knockout football in Europe with the help of their new signing. PSG have changed their identity from a star studded team to a group of talented players who are all experienced, young and have a drive towards success. Players like Dembélé, Barcola, Hakimi and Neves are all young and talented and have been integral to PSG’s success this season through teamwork and hard play. They don’t have one out and out scorer but instead a number of attackers and creators who have scored a similar number of goals and if Kvaratskhelia can begin to add to this then PSG might have finally found the solution to their lack of success in Europe through the combination of a fluid tactical style and powerful wing attack that builds the creative play from defence to goal and Kvaratskhelia can add to this already dominant style of play immensely leading them to European glory at last?

Well, the foundations were laid in their first game since signing the Georgian, although he didn’t play, when they came back from a two goal deficit to beat Manchester City 4-2 with the aforementioned young talents carrying them towards the second half revival that saw them come out on top and withhold their chances of making the knockouts in the UEFA Champions League.
