A big game in Round 4 of the EFL Cup seeing Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur face off for a place in the quarter finals. It was an excellent game that saw a masterclass in ‘angeball’ from Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs came into the game off a defeat against Palace and will be eager to prove themselves against City; a team they have often beaten in recent years. City are a dominant team but it didn’t go exactly their way against Tottenham.

To start the game Spurs were on the front foot putting the pressure against Guardiola’s team, until, a man who has been criticised for his lack of goals capitalised. Werner was picked out by Kulusevski after a beautiful backheel from Brennan Johnson pushing Spurs in front. Brennan is a man who has been alight this season after facing criticism and it has become a theme of Ange Postecoglu’s players. He is an excellent man manager and it seems he is capable of getting the best out of his players, especially when they’re facing criticism from the media.

An exceptional goal from Pape Sarr off a corner with one of his all too familiar outside of the box shots, slipping its way past  Ortega and into the bottom right corner. Spurs seemed annoyed by the previous loss against Palace and eager to prove themselves and as has often happened in recent years, they are leading City.

However, before the stroke of the first half a well placed cross from Savinho found Nunes who tapped home a goal that they had been leaning towards, leaving Spurs disheartened before the end of the first half.

The beginning of the second half saw a beautiful chance for Werner but the criticism rang true with him hitting it against the post and sending it out of play. A few great chances followed for the likes of Kulusevski Johnson and Richarlison. One in particular for Richarlison should have been the goal to seal the game which he hit at Ortega, with only him to beat. A chance just before the end of the game nearly saw Manchester City equalise and if it wasn’t for Yves Bissouma they would have capitalised with him clearing the ball off the line at the final moment.

In the end it finished with Spurs being Manchester City’s kryptonite, sending them home and progressing to the quarter finals.
